Poker Hands: What are the different combinations possible?
Poker is world renowned for the strategy, skills, and expertise it takes. The world-famous card game features many different types of card combinations you need to know to understand the game. Below we have highlighted some of these hands.
Royal Flush
This is the rarest and most powerful card combination you could have in your hands.
This is because it is a combination of five cards in a row.
All the same suit, it ends with an Ace.
Straight Flush
With the King as the highest card, the Straight Flush consists of 5 cards in sequential rank, all of the same suit. It is the second most powerful hand in the poker hierarchy.
Four of a Kind
Four of a Kind is logically a sequence of four identical cards that can differ on suit. The fifth card can be a tiebreaker if several players have more or less powerful Four of a Kind hands.
Full House
The Full House is one of the first additions in the world of combinations.
It is actually three cards of the same rank accompanied by two other cards of another rank.
You will see below that a full house can be described as the addition of three of a kind and a pair.
Flush
This poker hand is interesting because you only need five cards of the same suit, regardless of whether they are of different ranks or not.
Straight
The straight indicates that your hand is in a tie. The Ace can be either the low card or the high card. The only requirement for a straight is that you have five cards in a row.
Three of a Kind
Three of a kind is a sequence of three cards of the same rank.
It can be added to a pair in a five-card hand.
Two Pair
As the name suggests, two pairs are two cards of the same rank. The suits can be different, however.
It is an addition: Pair + Pair.
One Pair
A one pair is a combination of two cards of the same rank. It is one of the least powerful combinations in poker, but it can be useful for players.
High Card
The high card, or "hole card", is the most common combination in poker. This means that during the course of the game, no player has managed to have a higher hand. It is the high card that will decide the winner. In the case of identical high cards between different players, the kicker will decide.
